Karen Kocher

Karen Kocher is the Chief Learning Officer for CIGNA, Inc., one of the largest health insurance providers in America. CIGNA has won multiple awards, including those for excellent customer service.
Ms. Kocher began her career in learning as the Manager of IT Education at insurance provider Aetna, Inc., and went on to become the Education Director, managing front-line employee computer competency education in addition to her focus on IT professionals. She has had P&L responsibility for each of the educational organizations she has managed and is consulted regularly regarding the strategies she uses to build and lead highly efficient, effective and profitable education enterprises and teams.
She has also worked at IBM within the Mindspan Solutions organization and had the role of Global e-learning Content Solutions Executive. In this role, Ms. Kocher worked to define e-learning strategies, solutions, and offerings. Prior to joining IBM Mindspan, she was the Offering Executive of Advanced and Emerging Technologies education within IBM Learning Services.
In her current role as Chief Learning Officer, Ms. Kocher is responsible for learning and development for employees as well as external audiences, including producers, providers, members, and employers. Prior to this role, Ms. Kocher had responsibility for learning and development for the CIGNA Service Operations organization.
Ms. Kocher has more than 15 years of experience managing learning organizations, public training centers and corporate training departments. In addition to roles leading education organizations, her background includes technical and sales positions within the insurance and financial services industries.
Frequently recognized by the training industry, Ms. Kocher was presented with a Service News magazine award for being one of the most Innovative IT Service Leaders of the Year. She has served on a variety of boards, advisory groups and councils including the Conference Board’s Council on Learning, Development and Organizational Performance, Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Advisory Board, Capital Community College Advisory Board and the Bridgeport University Advisory Council.
Ms. Kocher often works with vendors, such as Microsoft, IBM/Lotus, and others on focus group initiatives. She speaks regularly at major events on issues surrounding corporate learning and business management. She earned the prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1995.
